Grapes: 90% Mencía, 5% Garnacha, 5% Sousón
Valdeorras is Galicia’s most eastern wine region. From the 500m ‘Abelleira’ vineyard. 35 year old vines. Clay loam soils, rocky material, slate remains.
Mencia here is very much at the lighter, fresher end of the spectrum. Notes of crushed raspberries, white pepper, minerally earth & a pinch of smoked paprika. Its crunchy fresh acidity outweighs any tannin.
A must try for all lovers of lighter reds.
Versatile red to accompany tapas, Italian pasta, risottos, white meats and spicy sausages. Suitable for cold appetizers and pate as well as meats accompanied by pepper-based sauces or dairy products.
